Volumetric weight is a key concept in the shipping industry, particularly for air freight. This calculation determines the weight of a package based on its dimensions rather than its actual weight, accommodating packages that are large but light and take up significant space on the plane.

To calculate the volumetric weight in centimeters, multiply the width, length, and height of the package, then divide by 6000.

If the volumetric weight exceeds the actual weight, the freight cost is based on the volumetric weight. This method ensures fair pricing for air delivery, accounting for the space a package occupies in the aircraft.
