Volumetric weight is a key concept in the shipping industry, particularly for air freight. This calculation determines the weight of a package based on its dimensions rather than its actual weight, accommodating packages that are large but light and take up significant space on the plane.

To calculate the volumetric weight in centimeters, multiply the width, length, and height of the package, then divide by 6000.

If the volumetric weight exceeds the actual weight, the freight cost is based on the volumetric weight. This method ensures fair pricing for air delivery, accounting for the space a package occupies in the aircraft.

Customs duties are mandatory fees charged by the state for transporting goods across the customs border of the Republic of Armenia.

Individuals must pay customs duties when the value of goods for personal use sent via international postal parcels exceeds 200 euros or 31 kg.

According to current regulations:

  • If the cargo exceeds the monetary threshold, a customs fee of 15% is charged on the difference between the cargo’s value and the permissible threshold.
  • If the cargo exceeds the weight limit, the customs duty is 15% of the cargo’s value or 2 euros per excess kilogram, whichever is higher.

The lists of items prohibited for export are defined by the customs services of the Republic of Armenia and the United States.

The main categories of goods not allowed to be imported into the US include:

  • Tobacco and tobacco products
  • Alcohol
  • Medicines
  • Precious metals (e.g., gold, silver, platinum)
  • Meat products and fresh food
  • Dried herbs
  • Plants
  • Liquids
  • Documents (our company does not export these)

Goods banned from export by Armenia include:

  • Munitions
  • Firearms and their main parts (including gas, throwing, signal, pneumatic, and cold weapons)
  • Electric shock devices and detonators
  • Hazardous substances (e.g., narcotics, psychoactive, radioactive, explosive, toxic, flammable)
  • Poisonous animals and plants
  • Armenian currency (except by the Central Bank of Armenia and its branches)
